Individuals PolandKrakow Post -- As Americans remember the tragedy of 11 September today, Poles have woken up to word of another tragedy closer to home. Yesterday, another Polish soldier was killed in Afghanistan.



Private first class Piotr Marciniak lost his life in the district of Andar, during an exchange of fire with Afghan resistance fighters.

Four other coalition soldiers were wounded, and it is estimated that more than 10 Afghan fighters were killed, including one suspected of numerous terrorist attacks in the Polish-controlled Ghazni province.

That province was where just a week ago another soldier, Marcin Poręba, was killed when a mine went off under his armoured vehicle.

Individuals PolandWSVN -- WARSAW, Poland (AP) -- The Polish army says a soldier injured in Afghanistan in May has died of his wounds at a hospital in Poland.

Pfc. Artur Pyc was injured May 22 in Afghanistan's eastern Ghazni province when a roadside bomb exploded under the mine-resistant armored vehicle he was driving.

Poland's army command said in a statement Wednesday that Pyc died at a military hospital in Lublin on Tuesday. It gave no further details.

Pyc's death brings to 12 the number of Polish soldiers who have died in the country's Afghan mission, which started in 2002.

Individuals PolandMinistry of national Defence -- Polish Armed Forces have again suffered the loss of the soldier of the Polish Military Contingent in Afghanistan.

Sergeant Marcin Poręba was killed by a home-made IED that went off under an armoured troop carrier as the military convoy they were travelling in was about two kilometres from the Polish base of Giro on 4th September. 
Five other soldiers were wounded during the explosion. They were immediately dressed and taken to the hospital. Their condition is described as stable.

“You sacrificed your life for a better and fairer world said Field Bishop MajGen. Tadeusz Płoski during a funeral ceremony held on 9th September in Sgt. Poreba’s hometown church in Szczecyn.

Individuals PolandPolish Radio External Service -- The Polish soldier, found dead yesterday in the Afghani district of Ajuristan, was shot by an Afghan sniper.

Captain Daniel Ambrozinski was shot dead on Monday when a patrol, comprising dozens of Polish and Afghan troops was attacked by the Taliban. Polish soldiers were patrolling the area as part of the “Over the Top” operation and fell into a trap set by Afghan fighters. The fight was uneven. Joint Polish-Afghan forces had to confront 50-100 rebels. During the shoot-out, Captain Ambrozinski tried to shoot a sniper located on the roof of a nearby house.

Individuals PolandUzar News -- According to TVN 24, a Polish soldier has died in Afghanistan. The accident took place in the afternoon (around 3 p.m. local time in Afghanistan) when a Polish convoy was driving soldiers back to their base, after finishing duty in the city of Ghazni. A bus full of passengers sped out in front of the Humvee vehicle.

The Polish driver quickly tried to avoid an imminent collision, but the vehicle rolled over. Warrant officer Andrzej Rozmiarek, from the 12th Mechanical Squad, died in the accident.

The Military Police (ŻW) and military prosecutor will investigate the circumstances of the accident. All injured persons were immediately transported to the Ghazni base; two of them were airlifted to a hospital in Bagram, where they are being examined.

Individuals Poland Private 1st Class Pawel Brodzikowski, 25, was one of three Polish Explosive Ordnance Disposal experts from the 2nd Mazovians Engineering Brigade killed in a mine blast between Sharana and Ghazni on Wednesday. They were conducting a patrol when their Humvee struck the device. A further Polish soldier suffered serious wounds during the blast.

The wounded soldier was transported by helicopter to another base at Bagram. Since the beginning of the Polish mission in Afghanistan, eight Polish soldiers have been killed.

The Polish patrol was composed of a number of vehicles headed on Wednesday afternoon from their base in Ghazni to the Sharan district in the Paktika province when one of the hummers drove over an explosive.

Individuals Poland Senior Corporal Waldemar Sujdak, who served in the 2 Mazowiecka Brygada Saperów, 2nd Mazovians Engineering Brigade in Kazuniu, has a three year old dauhter.

Waldemar, 28, was part of a Polish Patrol between Sharana and Ghazni when their vehicle was struck by an improvised explosive device. Private 1st Class Pawel Szwed, 27, and Private 1st Class Pawel Brodzikowski, 25, died on the spot, with another soldier suffering wounds from the blast.

Senior Corporal Sujdak was the commander of a team of Engineers who were tasked to find, indentify and neutralize improvised explosive devices throughout the region. He had served in the Polish Army for eight years. Friends from Debica, where he was born and went to school, still cannot believe they are not alive.

Individuals PolandInternational Herald Tribune -- Polish media are reporting that an overnight attack in southeastern Afghanistan left a Polish soldier dead and four others wounded.

Military spokesman Jacek Poplawski says in an interview with RMF FM radio that the soldiers had been on patrol near Otukhel when an explosion went off under their vehicle. Otukhel is about 25 miles (40 kilometers) from the Polish soldiers' base in the province of Paktika.

The spokesman said in the radio report Saturday that the wounded were being treated at a hospital and were not in life-threatening condition. The soldier killed was identified as 2nd Lt. Robert Marczewski.

Individuals PolandThenews.pl -- Private Grzegorz Politkowski from the Polish contingent in Afghanistan has died in hospital after a roadside bomb exploded under his vehicle.

The Polish patrol was driving to meet local Afghan authorities for a check-up of investment projects financed by the army. Around 14 kilometers south-west from the Ghazni base, east Afghanistan, a roadside bomb exploded under one of the Hummers vehicles.

Two Polish soldiers were injured and immediately transported to a hospital.
