Individuals NetherlandsDefence -- The 44-year-old Sergeant Major Mark Leijsen is Monday, September 7 in Uruzgan killed by an attack with an improvised explosive.

The attack took place in the Deh Rashangebied, about 9 kilometer northwest of the Dutch base Camp Holland.

Sergeant Major Leijsen from 101 engineer battalion is stationed at the barracks in Wezep Princess Margriet.

Mark Leijsen was part of an Operational Mentor and Liaison Team which assists the Afghan army in operations and training.

Individuals NetherlandsTaiwan News -- The Netherlands Defense Ministry says that a Dutch soldier has been killed in a gunbattle in southern Afghanistan.

The ministry identified him as Cpl. Kevin van der Rijdt, a member of a special forces unit. The 26-year-old soldier was killed Sunday morning during a skirmish with fighters near Deh Rawood. He died of gunshot wounds.

Van der Rijdt is the 20th Dutch soldier to be killed in Afghanistan since the Netherlands began its deployment in Uruzgan province in August 2006. Around 1,650 Dutch are serving in Afghanistan as part of NATO forces.

The ministry says Van der Rijdt's unit worked with Australian forces to seek and destroy material used to make improvised explosives.

Individuals NetherlandsMinistry of Defence -- A rocket attack on Camp Holland is now 20-year-old soldier of the first class Azdin Chadli killed.

Five Dutch soldiers were wounded in the attack on the main Dutch base in the Afghan province of Uruzgan. Their condition is stable. Commander of the Armed Forces General Peter van Uhm, this evening announced.

Two injured in treatment transferred to the hospital at Kandahar Airfield. The others were treated at Camp Holland. These are soldiers ranging in age from 19 to 24 years. Among them is a woman.

Individuals Netherlands News X -- A Dutch soldier was killed in Afghanistan on Friday when he stepped on an "improvised explosive device," the Dutch defence ministry said.

"Twenty-four-year-old Sergeant Mark Weijdt was killed in action on Friday around 1400 Afghan time," ministry spokeswoman Marloes Visser told AFP.

She said a fire-fight broke out between Weijdt's company and suspected Taliban fighters during a military operation near the Baluchi Valley in the southern Afghan province of Uruzgan, where most of the Dutch troops are based.

Individuals NetherlandsReuters -- AMSTERDAM, Sept 7 (Reuters) - A Dutch soldier serving with NATO-led forces in southern Afghanistan was killed on Sunday by a roadside bomb, the Dutch Defence Ministry said on Sunday.

The 21-year-old soldier, Jos ten Brinke, was killed about 20 kilometres (12.4 miles) north of the town of Tarin Kowt, the ministry said in a statement.

Five others soldiers were wounded in the attack, one of them seriously, the ministry said.

The family Schouwink is an understanding with the club. Especially since there father Gerard been voetbalt. Mark was in the past member, but Ruud brother still plays in the same team as his father. Verhoef has his teammates could not speak: "When I around noon on the news heard the last name, I immediately knew what time it was."

Individuals NetherlandsThe Associated Press -- THE HAGUE, Netherlands (AP) — The son of the Dutch defense chief was killed Friday by a roadside bomb in Afghanistan, and the Taliban claimed they deliberately made the young lieutenant a high-profile target.

While the Dutch quickly cast doubt on the Taliban claim, the death underscores the danger high-profile soldiers can face and illustrates a grim reality for families, famous and not, who choose the military life.

Lt. Dennis van Uhm, 23, was one of two Dutch soldiers killed in the explosion seven miles northwest of Camp Holland, the Dutch military base in the restive southern province of Uruzgan. Two more soldiers were injured, one critically.

Individuals NetherlandsDutch News -- Two Dutch and two Afghan soldiers were killed by friendly fire in Afghanistan on Saturday night, army chief Dick Berlijn confirmed on Sunday.

Berlijn that the situation occurred because of the darkness, the bad weather and the difficult situation on the ground.

The dead Dutch soldiers have been named as the 20-year-old private first class Wesley Schol and the 22-year-old corporal Aldert Poortema. They were taking part in a reconnaisance operation involving hundreds of Dutch and Afghan soldiers in the area of Deh Rawood.

Individuals NetherlandsThe Press Association -- A Dutch soldier has been killed by a roadside bomb in Afghanistan, the Defence Ministry said.

Cpl. Ronald Groen, 21, was one of three men on patrol in an armoured car when it drove over an improvised explosive device, Gen. Dick Berlijn told reporters in The Hague.

The two others were injured but in stable condition, Berlijn said.

The patrol was part of the "Spin Ghar" operation - a major offensive against the Taliban in the southern Afghan province of Uruzgan, where the Netherlands currently has around 1,650 troops stationed.

Individuals Netherlands An 11th soldier, 20-year old Tim Hoogland, died in Afghanistan on Thursday evening and is the first Dutch soldier to be killed by a Taliban bullet.

Jan Kleian, chairman of the military trade union VBM/NOV, told ANP news service that the death of Hoogland might be easier for his colleagues to cope with than previous deaths because he was killed in active fighting rather than through the ‘cowardly’ action of a land mine.

Hoogland’s death was announced by prime minister Jan Peter Balkenende during the parliamentary debate on the budget. He was stationed at the Dutch base at Deh Rawod in the southern province of Uruzgan.
