Individuals Denmark Wednesday 17 June was a very sad day for the Danish battalion in Helmand since the course of the morning was incontrovertibly clear to us that we had suffered our first loss to Team 7
Three talented soldiers, friends and colleagues were with a torn from us and their loved ones in the most relentless and brutal fashion after being hit by a vejsidebombe.

We sit back down here, thoughtful and deeply concerned at having lost three of our comrades and all our thoughts go in this tragedy home to our fallen comrades' families and friends whose loss is irreplaceable, and whose sorrow we feel and share.

Martin Abildgaard was a good, professional and proud soldier. He was, among other things, known as a skilled machine gunner, and he was a good friend who was always there for others.

Mads Lerche Rasmussen was outgoing and frank, and could charm through to everyone he spoke with. He was also temperamental, but as fast as he was up in the red box, just as quickly he was back in his usual sociable and charming style. He was incredibly vellidt among his friends and colleagues and highly respected for his skills as a soldier, especially as jet shuttle.

Haeren -- The head of the Danish Battlegroup Col Keld RJ Christensen writes:

Yesterday began with the saddest weather, we've had down here. It was foggy, dark and cold, as a sad warning of how the day would end.

Yesterday was also the day when 6 team had its biggest losses. We are left shocked and grief-filled, that we had to say goodbye to three good friends, colleagues and soldiers.

Sergeant Jacob Moe Jensen, konstabel Sebastian La Cour Holm and konstabel Benjamin Davie Sala Rasmussen lost their lives when they were engaged in what they have done so many times before. Namely, to escort logistikkonvojen through the desert.

Individuals DenmarkHaeren -- CH for the Danish battalion in Helmand, Col. Jens Lønborg
OKS Jesper Gilbert Petersen was killed Friday morning in battle with the Taliban up north of For-ward Operating Base ATTAL in the Upper Gereshk Valley. An excellent soldier and good colleague was so brutally torn from us.

In this difficult hour our thoughts go to the Gilberts family and friends. The grief they feel right now, we feel, too.
Although it can not bring Gilbert back, we will find solace in anyway to know that home in Denmark doing all it can to support now and in the difficult time to come.
