Individuals CanadaCBC News -- People in Oromocto, N.B., are in mourning with the news that one of three Canadian Soldiers killed Tuesday in Afghanistan was from their community.

Cpl. Kenneth Chad O'Quinn, who moved to New Brunswick as a child, was killed in a roadside bomb attack outside Khandahar on Tuesday evening. Warrant Officer Dennis Raymond Brown and Cpl. Dany Fortin were also killed and two others were wounded when an improvised explosive device detonated near their armored vehicle.

Individuals Canada ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - Her eyes welling with tears as she contemplated a future without her husband, the grieving widow of one of the three latest soldiers killed in Afghanistan bravely came forward Wednesday and said she all but knew the man she called her "powerhouse" would die serving his country.

The recently married couple, who have four children, talked at length about death before he deployed in September, said Mishelle Brown, wife of Warrant Officer Dennis Brown.

Individuals CanadaThe Vancouver Sun -- KANDAHAR AIRFIELD, Afghanistan — Another Canadian soldier was killed here Saturday afternoon by an improvised explosive device.

A roadside bomb blast killed Sapper Sean David Greenfield in southern Afghanistan, the latest death in what has become a bloody winter for troops serving in this war.

Greenfield, 25, died when his armoured vehicle hit a roadside bomb at about 2:45 p.m. in Zhari district, roughly 40 kilometres west of Kandahar City. Greenfield, who was from the 24 Field Engineer Squadron, 2 Combat Regiment, based in Petawawa, Ont., is the 108th Canadian soldier killed in Afghanistan since 2002. No other soldiers were injured in the explosion.

Individuals CanadaCBC -- A Canadian soldier was killed by a roadside bomb in the northern part of Afghanistan's Kandahar province early Wednesday, say military officials.

The soldier died when an improvised explosive device detonated near the armoured vehicle in which he was travelling. Three other soldiers were injured in the incident in the Shah Wali Kowt district, about 35 kilometres north of the city of Kandahar.

Trooper Brian Richard Good, 42, was a member of the Royal Canadian Dragoons, serving with the 3rd Battalion of the Royal Canadian Regiment and stationed at the eastern Ontario Canadian Forces Base Petawawa.

Individuals CanadaVancouver Sun -- KANDAHAR AIRFIELD, Afghanistan — Pte. Michael Bruce Freeman has been identified as the Canadian soldier killed Friday while out on security patrol with his platoon in the Zhari desert, west of Kandahar City.

Freeman, 28, on his first tour of Afghanistan, was based in Ontario at Canadian Forces Base Petawawa. He was serving with November Company, 3rd Battalion, The Royal Canadian Regiment.

He died shortly before 1 p.m. Friday when the armoured vehicle he was travelling in was struck by an explosive device.

Individuals CanadaCanadian Armed Forces Blogger -- Private John Michael Roy Curwin was killed as a result of an improvised explosive device attack on an armoured vehicle during a patrol in the Arghandab District. The incident occurred approximately 14 kilometers west of Kandahar City at about 9:00 a.m., Kandahar time, on 13 December 2008.

Private John Michael Roy Curwin was from 2nd Battalion, The Royal Canadian Regiment from CFB Gagetown, New Brunswick, and served as a member of the Force Protection Company of the Kandahar Provincial Reconstruction Team.

Individuals CanadaCanadian Armed Forces Blogger -- GAGETOWN, N.B. — The family of one of three Canadian soldiers killed in Afghanistan said Sunday they are shocked and saddened at the news of the death of Cpl. Thomas James Hamilton.

"Thomas was a wonderful son, brother, uncle, father and friend," his mother, Cindy Higgins, said in a statement.

She said her son, 26, was born in Truro, N.S., and grew up in Upper Musquodoboit.

Individuals CanadaVOCM -- The Town of Baie Verte is in mourning today as the war in Afghanistan has claimed the life of another of our native sons.

Private Justin Jones of Baie Verte was one of three soldiers who died yesterday when their vehicle hit a roadside bomb west of Kandahar City.

The deaths of Private Jones, Corporal Thomas Hamilton and Private John Curwin bring to 103 the number of Canadian soldiers who have died in Afghanistan since 2002.
