Individuals Turkey A funeral ceremony was held for Sergeant Mevlut Baydur who had died following a road accident in Afghanistan.

Colonel Faruk Sungur and Sergeant Mevlut Baydur were killed, and another colonel and sergeant were injured in Tuesday's accident when an armored vehicle carrying the Turkish soldiers collided with a truck in the northern province of Faryab.

The family of the martyr, his relatives and many citizens attended the ceremony in the town of Konya Doganhisar.

After the funeral prayer, Baydur was brought into the earth in the family cemetery.

Individuals TurkeyToday's Zaman -- Two members of the Turkish military serving in a NATO-led force in Afghanistan were killed in a road accident on Tuesday, Turkish authorities have announced.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Burak Özügergin, speaking to reporters at a weekly press briefing on Wednesday, identified the soldiers as Col. Faruk Sungur, commander of the Turkish forces in Afghanistan, and Sgt. Mevlüt Baydur.

Another colonel, Murat Kaymakçılar, and Sgt. Fehmi Berkyürek, who were in the same car, were wounded, Özügergin said, adding that an ambulance plane would fly to Afghanistan later on Wednesday in order to bring the dead bodies and the wounded soldiers home.
