Individuals Hungary China View -- BUDAPEST, July 12 (Xinhua) -- Hungarian explosives expert Captain Krisztian Nemes was killed by a bomb on Saturday in Baghlan province, Afghanistan, the Hungarian Defense Ministry said.

The Local authorities called the Hungarian explosives experts onto a road leading to Kunduz where a bomb was founded. Nemes and a local police officer began investigating the explosive when it exploded. The police officer was hospitalized and has not regained consciousness, the Hungarian News Agency MTI reported, citing the Defense Ministry's spokeswoman Andrea Eva Nagy.

It was unclear that what caused the bomb to explode. Defense Minister Imre Szekeres has called for an immediate investigation.

Individuals Hungary China View -- BUDAPEST, June 10 (Xinhua) -- The Hungarian Defense Ministry said that a 30-year-old Hungarian soldier died in Afghanistan on Tuesday, and Defense Minister Imre Szekeres has declared Gyula Kovacs a hero and promoted him to the rank of a lieutenant.

This is the first casualty Hungarian peacekeepers have suffered since their deployment in Afghanistan five years ago.

Hungarian News Agency MTI reported that Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsany expressed condolences to First Sergeant Gyula Kovacs's family in a telephone call, and President Laszlo Solyom has telegrammed his condolences to the soldier's family.
