KSBI-TV -- The tears are flowing and the flags are flying half staff in this Moore neighborhood after one of their own, Soldier David Wright, was killed in battle.


"I never expected to actually know the person who's face pops up with the name and I did and I couldn't believe it. it's devastating. I mean he is there only son," said Ashland Whitner, friend.


Whitner says David's parents Tim and Michele were anxiously awaiting his return from Afghanistan. They had even purchased this truck for him to tell them how truly proud they were.


"They were expecting them to come home and say we are so proud of you, look what we just got you," said Whitner.

David's parents knew how special their son was and in a statement to us they said, "David was a true soldier, who cherished the opportunity to fight for his country. We loved him greatly and will miss him tremendously."


And they aren't the only ones, neighbors up and down the Wright's street shared numerous stories about David's affection for others.


"He seemed to be that kind of guy that would make that effort," said Bret Fieldcamp.


Fieldcamp and his brother attended Moore High School with David. He says his brother always remembers when David went out of his way to make his band feel appreciated.


"One of the most important memories he had of him was he just came by one day and said hey this sounds like good music, can I sit and watch? And he just sat there and watched the entire day," said Fieldcamp.


These friends say they will be there for the family as they prepare to say their final goodbyes and they say here in Moore, David will always be remembered as a hero.


"Going over there to fight for us so we can maintain our freedom is amazing to me," said Whitner.


"It's the kind of sacrifice you can't help but respect it for him wanting to go over and support our country, we definitely extend the support and I know everyone else here will to," said Fieldcamp.
