Associated Press — Ara Tyler Deysie talked about joining the military when he was just 4 years old, his mother said Sunday.

At 18, Deysie became the fourth soldier from the 101st Airborne to be killed in Afghanistan in a week. The Parker, Ariz. teen and member of the Colorado River Indian Tribe was killed Friday in the Paktia Province when his patrol encountered rocket-propelled grenade fire.

Deysie’s mother, Lori Deysie, 40, said her son was a jokester and a handful.

Individuals USOn Sunday, Mother’s Day, Elma Palomarez used the strength she gained as a parent to cope with the death of her youngest son.

Just four days prior, Isaac Palomarez was killed while serving in Afghanistan.

“If you’re a mother you have to be strong,” said Elma, who sat next to a flowering garden at her west Loveland home. “The strength just comes from the experience, from what you have to do.”

Twenty-six-year-old Sgt. Isaac Palomarez was on his second tour of the Middle East, serving as an Army infantry soldier in the war-torn country’s Kapisa Province.

Department of Defence News -- A 23-year-old Fort Campbell soldier from eastern Kentucky was one of two soldiers killed in Afghanistan when their vehicle struck a roadside bomb.

The Department of Defense said in a statement Thursday that those killed were Spc. Jeremy R. Gullett of Greenup, Ky., and Staff Sgt. Kevin C. Roberts of Farmington, N.M.

The department said the men were killed May 7 in Afghanistan's Sabari District.

Associated Press — While on leave from his first tour of duty in the Middle East, Army Staff Sgt. Kevin Casey Roberts told those at home about building a playground at an Iraqi orphanage and receiving a warm welcome from several Iraqi citizens.

“A lot of people were happy,” Roberts said in a 2004 interview with The Daily Times. “They would shake your hand and the kids would give you hugs. These were good signs we were there.”

Roberts, 25, was one of two Fort Campbell soldiers killed by a roadside bomb on Wednesday in Afghanistan’s Sabari District, according to the Department of Defense. The other soldier was identified as Spc. Jeremy R. Gullett, 22, of Greenup, Ky.

Individuals United KingdomMOD -- It is with deep sadness that the Ministry of Defence must confirm that Trooper Ratu Babakobau of the Household Cavalry Regiment was killed yesterday, Friday 2 May 2008, in Helmand, Afghanistan.

At 1350hrs local time whilst providing protection for a routine patrol in the Nowzad area of northern Helmand, the vehicle he was travelling in suffered a minestrike. Three other British soldiers and one local national were also injured in the incident. The medical incident response team was called in and evacuated the casualties to the ISAF medical facilities at Camp Bastion. Sadly Trooper Babakobau was pronounced dead on arrival. The remaining casualties are receiving treatment for their injuries.

Trooper Babakobau, 29 from Fiji, joined the Army in 2004 to serve in the Household Cavalry Regiment. He deployed to Afghanistan in April 2008 serving under the command of the 5 SCOTS Brigade. This was his first deployment on operations overseas. He is survived by his wife Camari and two sons, Ratu Seru, aged four, and Ratu Sakeasi Sucumailodoni Selamu, aged one.

DoD News -- The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.

 
Sgt. 1st Class David L. McDowell, 30, of Ramona, Calif., died April 29 in Bastion, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked using small arms fire. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, Fort Lewis, Wash.

The San Francisco Chronicle -- Senior Airman Jonathan Yelner of Lafayette volunteered to be sent to Afghanistan two months ago to help local residents build new roads and buildings and to set up water supplies.

Yelner, 24, was killed Tuesday when a bomb exploded near his vehicle near Bagram, about 25 miles north of Kabul and the site of an air base where U.S. forces are stationed.

Yelner, a six-year Air Force Veteran, was a weapons loader who had been assigned to the 28th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron at Ellsworth Air Force Base in South Dakota. He was serving with the 755th Air Expeditionary Wing at Bagram Air Base as part of Operation Enduring Freedom, military officials said.

Individuals AustraliaNews.com -- AN Australian Special Forces soldier has been killed and four other soldiers wounded in a Taliban attack in Afghanistan.

The commando was named as Lance Corporal Jason Marks, 27, from the 4th Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment.

He lived in Sydney with his wife and two children.

The Sydney Morning Herald quoted Kenneth Marks, Lance-Cpl Marks's uncle, as saying: "He was a great young bloke and it's a shame that he was over there.".

Individuals United KingdomMOD -- It is with deep regret that the Ministry of Defence must confirm the death of Trooper Robert Pearson from the Queen's Royal Lancers Regiment in Afghanistan yesterday, Monday 21 April 2008.

At approximately 0900hrs local time, Trooper Pearson was part of the Armoured Support Company Royal Marines who were providing security to a resupply convoy that was returning to Camp Bastion when the vehicle he was driving hit a suspected mine.

Sadly, despite the best efforts of the medical team, Trooper Pearson was pronounced dead on arrival at the field hospital at Camp Bastion. Another soldier was injured in the blast and he is currently still receiving medical treatment.

Individuals NetherlandsDe Telegraaf -- HENGELO - The footballers vv Tubantia in Hengelo are dipped in deep mourning by the death of soldier Mark Schouwink. Everyone in the club knows the 'Schouwinks'. "In this way the war is not far off," responds Secretary Frits Verhoef excited.

The family Schouwink is an understanding with the club. Especially since there father Gerard been voetbalt. Mark was in the past member, but Ruud brother still plays in the same team as his father. Verhoef has his teammates could not speak: "When I around noon on the news heard the last name, I immediately knew what time it was."
